First death linked to vaping reported in Illinois

A patient has died once he developed a severe respiratory disorder because of vaping in the 1st such death within the USA, say health officers.

It comes as specialists investigate a mystery lung disease across the USA that’s joined to use of e-cigarettes.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) mentioned there have been 193 “potential cases” in twenty two american states.

Many of the cases involve vaping THC, the most active compound in cannabis, CDC specialists mentioned.

The cases were reported over the course of 2 months between twenty eight June and twenty August.

The guy that died was “hospitalized with unexplained disease caused by vaping or e-cigarette usage”, Dr Jennifer Layden, the chief medical practitioner and state medical scientist in Illinois, said.

CDC director Henry M. Robert Redfield said: “We are saddened to hear about the first death associated with the outbreak of severe lung disease in people who use e-cigarette or ‘vaping’ devices.”

He added: “This tragic death in Illinois reinforces the high risks related to e-cigarette products.”
